Happy Canada Day! (upcoming! )

With Canada Day quickly approaching, I was wondering what everyone’s plans were. It’s been a couple years since anyone has had any celebrations of Canada Day and I, for one, am looking forward to getting out and enjoying the festivities. Traditionally, my girls and I head downtown for the fireworks and some homemade icecream or other treats that are offered on the main street. I can’t wait to do that this year. Let me know what you are all up to this year! Maybe I’ll find something new to enjoy.

Take care and enjoy the holiday with friends and family.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all those who celebrate whether that means the religious holiday or just the Easter Bunny and enjoying Spring. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with family, friends and loved ones.

Betwixt (Betwixt and Between #1) by Daryna Jones

Betwixt (Betwixt and Between #1) published Feb 18, 2020 by Feather and Leaf, LLC  CDN $14.55 (paperback version)

I borrowed this book from a friend who thought I would be interested. I’m a big fan of Darynda Jones’ Charlie Davidson series. I have to say I loved this book. I love the humour and wit and of course I love anything supernatural. The main character, Defiance (love the name!) was in a bad place at the start and I love how she changes and adapts and comes into her own toward the end of the novel. Lots of mystery and suspense thrown in and of course…the mystery tatooed guy is very intriguing! I don’t want to give anything away, but I’m already into the next book in the series! It’s a great escape book! I love a suspensful, romantic, paranoral read anytime of day or night!  My guilty pleasure 😊

5 stars for me!

Teaser Tuesday March 23, 2021

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Ambrosia at The Purple Booker. Here are the rules if you want to play along:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week’s teaser comes from Thief of Lies (Library Jumpers Book 1) by Brenda Drake:

I could have kicked myself for not realizing earlier she wasn’t’ in my room. If I didn’t learn to be more aware of my surroundings-and quickly-we could be in serious danger.

I’ve only barely begun this book, but so far it is really interestingly fun! Love the concept of being able to travel to different places by jumping through portals that are literally contained in a book!

Please feel free to leave comments and links to your own teasers! I love seeing what everyone is reading.

Missing one of mine this Christmas as she lives away. Next year hopefully all my girls will be together.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Solstice and whatever Holiday you celebrate at this time of year. I hope 2021 is the best year for everyone around the world. Here’s to beating this world pandemic and enjoying family and friends not matter where they are!

Christmas Spirit

“Let’s decorate the tree!” six-year-old Jaimie shouted jumping up and down, her blond curls bouncing with each jump.

“Bah humbug. You know Santa isn’t real.” Timmy, her 11 year old brother told her. He slumped on the couch reaching for his cellphone.  Timmy hated Christmas. All the holiday cheer and fake smiles grated on his nerves. Christmas has never be the same, not since his dad left.

Jaimie grabbed the phone, giggling at the shock on his face. “Don’t be a spoil sport,” she said.  “You have to help me.”

“Why?”

“Cause I’m only this tall.” She pointed to the top of her head.  “And the tree is this tall!” She threw her arm in the air and jumped up as high as she could.  She kept jumping trying to make her hand reach the top of the tree, which she knew was impossible but Jaimie loved jumping up and down.  Her face flushed with exertion.

“Decorating’s stupid,” Timmy continued to sulk. “Mom’ll do it.”

“Please help me,” Jaimie stopped jumping and pleaded with sad soulful eyes, her mouth formed into a pout.  “Please, please, please.” She begged, when the pout didn’t work.

“Why now?”

“Cause Mom loves Christmas!” Jaimie shrieked.

“Fine,” Timmy said giving in. He never could resist his little sister’s endless energy. “Stop screaming though.”

“Yay,” She squealed wrapping her arms around him in a hug, squishing with all her might.  Timmy snorted despite himself.

They were both laughing and giggling as the last ornament went on, just as their mom walked in the house.  She was exhausted.  Timmy could see it in the lines of her face. She was a police officer, pulling double shifts. Christmas was always busy for officers.

“Surprise!” Jaimie yelled.  “Timmy and I decorated the tree.”

Their mom’s face transformed into joy; all of the exhaustion seemed to melt off her.  Timmy looked at his little sister’s beaming smile and was amazed, not for the first time, at how awesome she was.

I am reading this for my book club (I’m late!) But I am really enjoying the book. It is not what I would normally pick up for myself but it is really good.

Resolutions…

It is Jan 6th of a brand new year and for the past 6 days, I have been reflecting back on my life, my accomplishments. People often speak of New Year’s Resolutions this time of year. Normally, I reflect on my bucket list. I prefer to think of all the things I want to accomplish in my lifetime…not just in the upcoming year. Each year I take stock of the things I have done over the past year, and my life, and hope I have added to the things that I want to do before I can’t do them anymore.

I have, since about last spring, started what I call, “training for retirement”. When I finally come to that time in my life that I can retire from my job, I don’t want to be hindered by pain, aches, lack of fitness and any other thing that keeps me from doing what I enjoy. To that end, I lost a few pounds, went to see a physio therapist for my ongoing hip issue, pushed harder at the gym, and took on a couple of mud races. Yup Mud races! 3 of them and I loved doing them. The muddier and harder the better. I started with a 6km, 18-obstacle, fairly moderate intensity race, and I finished with Tough Mudder, a 10 mile (16km) 22 obstacle intense race. OMG it was extremely hard and so much fun. I really felt like I accomplished something with that! And… I found a new love for trail running.

And Tough Mudder 10 miles (16 Km) 22 obstacles.

So I am happy that I can add ‘Tough Mudder’ race to my bucket list! I’m not sure what is next on my bucket list, but I’m thinking it will be something intense….

What about you? Anything on your upcoming list? What do you think about New Year’s resolutions?  Feel free to share and link back to your site.  I would love to see your New Year Resolutions, or your Bucket List Accomplishments.

Happy New Year 2019!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from my house to yours. Hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday.

Blog 2.0

First off I need to apologize to my readers for the lack of content on my blog in the past year or so. I have been remiss and not very active. So starting now, I am refocused on my blog and plan to post a lot more from now on. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

So I have revamped the blog and gave it a new look, updated some stuff. Hope everyone likes the new look. It is a work in progress.  Welcome to my blog 2.0!

So what to blog about? Well, I still love reading and doing reviews, so I plan to keep doing that. I also plan to do other things on here as well. Common interest things that catch my eye. I love Do It Yourself things so that will be on the list. Check out my Halloween project that I found on Tumbler.

IMG_5869This was a huge hit with the kids!  They loved it.  I also added some sound effects with a prop I had last year.  It was howling sounds coming from behind the Hellgate. (my word for this cool effect)  I had a great time doing this and it was so easy.  A shipping crate, some hands from the dollar store, a red light for effect and a couple chains and a crow for good measure!

I have considered other types of reviews as well…Food, restaurants, vacation spots, products I use and any other reviews that happen across my brain…as flighty as that sometimes is. I am sometimes as focused as a well trained cat….OMG a Squirrel. (*sorry lost me for a second! )

I am really excited about becoming more engaged and meeting more people. If anyone has any ideas that they would like to see feel free to leave comments.

Happy Halloween 2018!

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween!
