As a writer we have to of course name our characters. but how important is the name?
Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
I love this scene from Romeo and Juliet and it is probably one of the few lines that I can recite by heart to this day. (I learned this in grade 9…many years ago.) It always struck a chord with me. So when I write I try to make my names match my characters. This can be very subjective since a strong name to me could be Nathan
Hellooo Nathan!
but to you Nathan could bring images of a wimpy character.
Nathan? Really? Hmmm. So you see the dilemma.
When I start writing, I write whatever name comes to mind at the time of writing. I then analyse during editing whether or not to keep the name for various reasons. My current story has three strong male leads.
Jesse – the popular, good looking, high school Jock. Not a jerk but usually sweet and very charming. Loved by all, but a little conceited and not the swiftest.
Justin – the boy next door, smart, funny, best friend of my Heroine, possible love interest with a heart of gold and a strong romantic – love you forever- kind of guy.
Jake – the mostly bad, mostly evil demon who has a tiny bit of good in him. Oh and he is about 100 years old, but looks 18, so an older name would be good.
S o you see the problem. Too many J’s and the reader gets confused.
I am looking for help for any or all names. Hopefully I will get some new ideas to fit my characters. I appreciate any and all feedback. Please leave me a comment on a name for which character.
Thanks a bunch! 🙂

Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer L Armentrout. Published April 4, 2013 by Spencer Hill Press. CDN $6.09 Kindle Edition
Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.
Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.
The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.
Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself. (Goodreads Excerpt)
Wow what an emotional and thoroughly enjoyable roller coaster ride of a story. I loved every minute of this book. The story keeps getting better and better. This book truly is amazing. There is nonstop action, romance, thrills and chills and everything in between. There are some questions that we get answers to, and then there are more questions. The worst is that I can’t wait to read the next book after the cliff hanger at the end. I can’t wait until November. Sniff L
There is no question that Alex is one bad ass female. You can’t help but cheer for her and admire her spunk and tenacity; I mean seriously the girl takes on a God! I won’t say what the outcome is but think about it people…he is a God! She keeps fighting no matter what and never gives up. I have to admire her.
And Aiden…sigh…what can I say, he truly is amazing. In the beginning of the series I admit I had my doubts, but holy cow the man is everything, romantic, sweet, brave, stubborn (in a good way) and smoking hot! Enough said.
Truly amazing book! 5 stars for sure.

Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex.
Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for.
Even if it means making war against the gods. (Goodreads Excerpt)
This book takes up right after Deity and therefore you must read Deity first. What I liked about this is that it is told from Aiden’s POV. You really see the depth of his love for Alex in this novella. Alex’s worst nightmare has come true and Aiden will do anything to help her. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone but it is very emotional and heart wrenching…a true love can conquer all tale.
5 stars for me.

Currently Reading: Shine (shade #3) by Jerri Smith-Ready. I have just started it but have loved the series so fare. Will post a review when completed.

Many people have a phobia of some sort. I often wondered if they were brought on by a traumatic event or just some irrational fear with no explanation. One of the most common phobias is Acrophobia (fear of heights)

I hear many people say they are afraid of spiders(Arachnophobia) or snakes (Ophidiophobia) or some other critters. scary-pictures.feedio.net
I was looking through the internet researching what people fear and was amazed at the amount of phobias there are out there. I think there is a fear of just about everything…even cats! (Ailurophobia) seriously how can anyone be afraid of a cute little kitten? weheartit.com
Ok but seriously, fear is very real for the person who is experiencing it no matter how irrational it may sound to others. I for example have two fears. First I am afraid of spiders even little tiny ones. This fear stems from a real experience when I was in the military reserve on an exercise. I unwittingly slept on a spider’s nest and when I woke up I was covered in bites from my backside to my ankle on one side. The little buggers bit through my combats! It was awful. Been scared to death of them ever since. I even get my kids to kill the ones that wander into the house.
My other fear is claustrophobia. I am afraid of tight dark spaces. I have no explanation for this fear but it is very real. If I am in a tight space(like a cave) my breathing gets shallow and I feel like I can’t breathe, especially if it is dark. My mother always told me that there is nothing to fear from the dark because there is nothing there that wasn’t there in the light! Yeah right! I know better…

So my question to you is what do you fear? Is there a rational explanation for it or just something that always was? Let me know in a comment because I love hearing from you. 🙂
