Finders Keepers by Stephen King

Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy, #2) Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges trilogy #2)by Stephen King.  Published June 2, 2015 by Scribner. CDN $28.46 Hardcover edition.

“Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel.

Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years.

Not since Misery has King played with the notion of a reader whose obsession with a writer gets dangerous. Finders Keepers is spectacular, heart-pounding suspense, but it is also King writing about how literature shapes a life—for good, for bad, forever. (goodreads excerpt)

I have been a huge Stephen King fan since I read “Eyes of the Dragon” when I was a kid.  He is the master story teller and my all time favorite author.

Finders Keepers is the second in the trilogy after Mr Mercedes.  I liked this book even more than the first.  I loved the characters, the suspense the plot everything.  The story is gripping and engaging.  I love how he brings back the characters and blends the stories together.  At first I forgot that it was a sequel the story is that engaging on it own, but then you get into the story and realize how he has masterfully weaved the first book and this one together.  Amazing author.

I won’t go into much detail as I hate to give anything away.  suffice it to say I was not disappointed and the teaser at the end leads one to believe that the next story will be just as enticing!

5 stars for me!

Happy New Year 2016!

I have been racking my brain trying to think of New Year Resolutions that are realistic and meaningful to me. So here it is. My 2016 goals ( I prefer goals to resolutions makes it feel more attainable!)

Finish my current book (working title Rayna’s Way)

Publish Souls of the Chimera (either traditional or self publish)

Make peace with my personal demons

Get my financial situation in order (2015 was a rough year)

I think these are all manageable with patience, time and commitment!

Hope 2016 is good for all of you. Please feel free to share your goals for this year 😊 please leave a comment or a link back to your site. Happy New year to you and Yours.

Merry Christmas to you and Yours.  I hope you enjoy your holidays with family and friends.

Crewel (Crewel World #1) by Gennifer Albin

Crewel (Crewel World, #1) Crewel by Gennifer Albin.  Published October 16th 2012 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR).  CDN $10.99 kindle edition. (although I bought the hardcover at chapters for $6.99!)

Incapable. Awkward. Artless.
That’s what the other girls whisper behind her back. But sixteen-year-old Adelice Lewys has a secret: She wants to fail.

Gifted with the ability to weave time with matter, she’s exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen to work the looms is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to manipulate the very fabric of reality. But if controlling what people eat, where they live, and how many children they have is the price of having it all, Adelice isn’t interested.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and used her hidden talent for a moment. Now she has one hour to eat her mom’s overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister’s academy gossip and laugh at her dad’s jokes. One hour to pretend everything’s okay. And one hour to escape.

Because tonight, they’ll come for her. (Goodreads excerpt)

Loved loved loved this book. I seem to have a thing for dystopian novels lately and I actually found this hardcover book at chapters for $6.99 cant believe my luck. It was incredibly inventive and creative. wickedly entertaining with engaging characters and lots of intrigue, drama, suspense and action….throw in a little love triangle of sorts and it is amazing!

I’m always worried about spoilers so I will be brief. The world created by Gennifer is amazing. I mean being able to manipulate the very fabric of time and space in the world is pure genius. The way she describes it feels like you are there with her. I loved the back story about how her parents tried to protect her and the twisted way society views everything. It has a moralistic feel to it without being preachy.

It ends on quite the cliffhanger and I’m not sure I will feel the same way with the next book since they change the premise of the story. I don’t want to give it away so I will leave it at that.

Creative, imaginative and thoroughly entertaining. 5 stars for me!

Picking up the slack!

Hello all,

I have to apologize for my lack of posting on my blog for the past while.  I have been dealing with some personal stuff and unfortunately that left little time for some of the things I enjoy doing like my writing and this blog.

I am hopefully getting my life a little more organized and plan to put more focus back so my posts should start to pick up and be a little more consistent.

Thank you to everyone for thier patience and understanding.

Cynthia

Enchantment (Spellbound #3) by Nikki Jefford

Enchantment (Spellbound, #3) Enchantment (Spellbound #3) by Nikki Jefford. Published April 6, 2013 by the Author.  CDN$ 4.04 Kindle edition.

Graylee Perez returned from the dead, took on a duplicate, and now faces her biggest adventure yet.

Barcelona.
Summer escape.

Or so Gray thought until her old adversary, Adrian Montez, brings his magic show to Spain.

Gray seeks out a Spanish wizard to help banish Adrian from her life once and for all. Instead, she tumbles headfirst into a love spell with the arrogant warlock.

When old enemies close in on them, Gray must face her true feelings and decide if Adrian’s worth fighting for and, more importantly, whether he’s worthy of her heart. (Goodreads excerpt)

WOW is all that comes to mind when I finished this book. What an amazing conclusion to a fabulous series. It is hard to write a review about the third book without giving anything away so this will be short and sweet.

I have to admit that I wasn’t a fan of Adrian in the first two books. He came off a little sleazy and a little bit evil, but I like that we get to know him on a more personal level in the third book and I have definitely changed my mind. He is a little bit bad (part of the appeal) but he has some good in him that is brought out by Gray. I think Adrian is the catalyst that made this book so good. You keep waiting to see which side he is going to land on and you really get swept away…not to mention the romantic elements that come into play here as well with the spell casting and everything else. Wink! wink! No spoilers please!

One of the amazing things about this series is the Gray/Graylee/Lee scenario with all three girls really being the same person but branching off on their own. I know this sounds a little complicated and I don’t want to spoil it but suffice to say it is an amazingly original concept that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I have to say that this series is amazing and I can’t wait to dive into another Nikki Jefford story. She really is an amazing author!

5 amazingly hot stars for me!

Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L Armentrout

Opposition (Lux, #5) Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L Armentrout.  Published Aug 5, 2014 by Entangled Teen. CDN $7.99 Kindle edition.

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can’t believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all. Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind. War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing. (Goodreads Excerpt)

Well what can I say now that it is all over? It was quite the ride I have to admit that. I was absolutely thrilled with the conclusion to the series. It was an amazing, tense, heart pounding, on the edge of your seat thrilling and wow…swoon worthy too!

I have become a HUGE fan of Jennifer Armentrout. She has not disappointed me yet and I can’t wait to read whatever she comes up with next. Amazing story telling, world building, character development and everything else that makes a book hard to put down.

It is hard to come up with a review for the fifth book without giving away anything from the previous books so I will leave it at this…
