My Teaser:

The sensation of being watched clung to me like a spider web, invisible threads bristling the back of my neck and down my spine. I brushed my fingers across my shoulders, as if I could drag the feeling ff and flick it away.

Promise (Soul Savers, #1) Promise (soul savers #1) by Kristie Cook.

I cheated a little this week as I haven’t started this book yet. I am a little behind on my reading and didn’t want to use the same book as last week. I flipped through my kindle and found this gem waiting patiently for me. It is the opening line of the book and it intrigued me so much I bumped it up on my list to TBR next list. There are currently 5 books in the series.

Taking back Forever by Karen Amanda Hooper

Taking Back Forever (The Kindrily, #2) Taking Back Forever (Kindrily #2) by Karen Amanda Hooper.  Published May 29, 2013 by Starry Sky Publishing.  CDN $3.97 Kindle edition.

Forever is worth the fight.

Maryah erased all memory of her past lives, but she couldn’t erase her soul mate Nathan, or his undying love. Now, Maryah and Nathan have a second chance at a future together, but first Maryah must remember the person she used to be and embrace her supernatural gifts—more than one kindrily member’s life depends on it.

Maryah’s power is Harmony’s best hope of finding her kidnapped soul mate, Gregory. But Harmony isn’t big on asking anyone for help, and she’s tired of waiting, so she’s taking matters into her own hands. Heaven help anyone who stands in her way. (Goodreads excerpt)’

This book continues right after the first book, however instead of the POV being Maryah and Nathan, you get Maryah and Harmony.  I found this a little confusing at first since I read the books back to back.  It didn’t take long to fix in my mind however and it totally makes sense once you read it.

The story is mesmerizing and addictive.  I love the originality.  I love the characterization.  Ok I just love everything about this book!  One thing I will say is that there are a lot of characters in this story that play a key role in development.  At first it is hard to keep them all straight, but each one is unique and contributes to the story in their own way and you fall in love with the whole clan.

I love the sexual tension between Nathan and Maryah and the author does a wonderful job of showing Maryah as a naive seventeen year old girl and Nathan as a much older soul if not in body.  It is very realistic and I love Nathan all the more for protecting Maryah the way he does.

I love the ending to the story.  It is very interesting that the author leaves us a choice towards the end of the book noting that some people love a cliff hanger and others do not.  Personally I like my stories to end and then the next book start again.  (not a cliff hanger type it makes me frustrated)  She included an alternate ending with a cliff hanger after her warning that if you don’t like cliff hangers stop reading here.  This was so cool and original.  Of course I couldn’t resist and dang it now I need the next book now!  Which is why I don’t like cliff hangers…lol

5 stars for me!

Grasping at Eternity by Karen Amanda Hooper

Grasping at Eternity (The Kindrily, #1) Grasping At Eternity by Karen Amanda Hooper.  Published May 21, 2012 by Starry Sky Publishing. CDN $3.06 Kindle edition.

Leave it to Maryah Woodsen to break the one rule that will screw up eternity: Never erase your memories.

Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable—she erased. Now, at seventeen years old, she’s clueless that her new adoptive family has known her for centuries, that they are perpetually reincarnated souls, and that they have supernatural abilities. Oh, and she’s supposed to love (not despise) Nathan, the green-eyed daredevil who saved her life.

Nathan is convinced his family’s plan to spark Maryah’s memory is hopeless, but his love for her is undying. After spending (and remembering) so many lifetimes together, being around an empty version of his soulmate is heart shattering. He hates acting like a stalker, but has no choice because the evil outcast who murdered Maryah in their last lifetime is still after her.

While Maryah’s hunter inches closer, she and Nathan make assumptions and hide secrets that rip them further apart. Maryah has to believe in the magic within her, Nathan must have faith in the power of their love, and both need to grasp onto the truth before they lose each other forever—and discover just how lonely eternity can be.

X-MEN meets MY NAME IS MEMORY in Karen Amanda Hooper’s latest young adult release. (Goodreads Excerpt)

Original, thought provoking and wonderful to read are the first words that come to mind when I finished this book.  I mean I was blown away with how well this story was put together.  The beginning of the story is a little confusing with the many characters that are introduced and the first chapter on Nathan is a little vague, however after about chapter four it all made sense and I loved every minute of reading.  I couldn’t put it down I was so mesmerized by the characters, the development and the unique story.

I loved the tension between Nathan and Maryah and felt the characters were true to form.  I was so immersed in the story that I felt sorry for Nathan and his predicament of being unable to tell Maryah what they mean to each other.  He is so sweet and kind and I love the romantic gestures and old world charm that befits his many years of reincarnation.  All of the characters were unique and very true to the story.  Maryah, being erased is still very young and immature and very confused by the events in the story.

Reincarnation is something that I have always been fascinated with and Karen has done an amazing job with her version of what happens when we die.  I love the idea of the Kindrily and all it represents.  I don’t want to give anything away but this was a fantastic read and I can’t wait to get started on the next book, Taking Back Forever.

I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this story as well.  I love stories about magic or supernatural powers.  The Kindrily all have special powers and reasons for them.  The bad guys have power too and the conflict is real and believable.  There are still a lot of unanswered questions in the story but I knew going in that it was a series so I assume they will be answered in the next book.  I am looking forward to a big showdown of supernatural powers.

5 stars for me.

My Teaser:

I wanted to punch a hole in the sky, rip it open, and fly out of this world and into a magical one.  Except I’d never punched anything in all my seventeen years of life, I didn’t believe in magic, and I sure as heck couldn’t fly.
